MY LIGHT BULB MOMENT
Right out of the gates of high school I went to The Western Culinary Institute in Portland, Oregon. There, my world would be expanded forever. I remember sitting in the "Wines of the World" class and receiving my first crash course in what passed for wine education at the time. After the class I remember thinking, "yep, don't know anything about wine and probably never will!" 17 years later, and wine is pretty much all I can think about. Strange how we roam on our paths and come full circle.

The Patio Restaurant Group
Manager / Sommelier

I gave the kitchen a really good shot.  Unfortunately it wasn't for me.  The passion for cooking still burns bright but the love of it only comes when cooking for my family and friends.  Luckily for me I was working at a large and thriving hotel at the time, The Sheraton Hotel and Marina.  There, I had my chance to break out of the kitchen and explore other departments like sales and banquets.  From this moment on, I never looked back.  Since then, I have worked in nightclubs and restaurants in General Manager and Director roles and none of these jobs were close enough to wine for my liking.

It took a number of years before I really realized that wine was something I wanted to work with for the rest of my career.  I would like to think that my route would have been a little less circuitous had I realized it sooner.  No regrets however as my path has taught me some very important skills when it comes to people management and leadership.

If my colorful past experiences are any indication, my future will equally be bright and exciting.  I for one am looking forward to the (wine fueled) excitement to come.
