MY LIGHT BULB MOMENT
While I remember the first time I REALLY understood tasting notes given at a pre-shift, it wasn't until years later when I returned to the Industry as a bartender at a wine bar that I had my Light Bulb moment. I was told numerous times "You are so good table side! Your presentation of the wine makes me REALLY understand what is in the bottle. You should do this forever." I soon went out and purchased "The Wine Bible," and was a introductory sommelier soon after. It has been an amazing ride!

Denise Mueller is a Certified Sommelier and Certified Specialist of Wine, and is currently studying for her Advanced Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers. 

Denise is the Owner/Lead Educator for Mid-American School of Wine and the PreSomm Brand, a course and book series for preliminary wine theory and wine service knowledge.

She strengthened her business savvy working as Director of Operations, Director of Food and Beverage, Director of Hospitality, and Beverage Manager for wine bars and restaurants in both Illinois and Missouri, participating in management, food and beverage program curation and maintenance, event planning, and staff education.

She has a degree in Mass Communications and Advertising from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUe). Using a combination of her background in Communications and Restaurant Management, she worked for Aloha Point of Sale Systems as a Lead Programmer and Trainer for 4 years.

Denise participates as an active member of the United States Bartenders Guild (USBG-STL) and is an active member of the St. Louis branch of the American Wine Society, participating as an event instructor.

In her “Spare Time,” Denise enjoys running Tower Grove Park, experiencing new restaurants in new neighborhoods, finding the areas greatest new bartenders and sommeliers, and relaxing at home with her Chihuahua Maximus.
